Engineering education in India.

Indians represent nearly 30% of the global annual supply of graduate engineers. In 2002 India claimed to produce 102000 real engineering graduate per year.

This went upto 222000 in 2006 and is expected to double by 2012. Today there are more than 2300 engineering institutions in the country turning out more than 8 lakh engineers every year. Indian engineering education represents one of the largest educational systems in the world. The engineering graduates of the advanced countrys possess a high level of confidence in handling unknown problems. Many of our graduates are deficient in handling these circumstances. This gap has to bridged by setting up appropriate educational system. There is a need to bring up better colleges which provide significantly good engineering education. The IIT, NIT, IIIT, has been a successful model in accomplishing this feat. This model should be adopted by a large number of institues for academics and governance.
